Bio
I was born in Oak Bluffs, Massachusetts in 1986. I graduated Magna Cum Laude with a BFA from Alfred University in 2013. After graduation I moved to Omaha, Nebraska to be an assistant to Jun Kaneko for three years. Most recently I have accepted a position at Penland School of Crafts, in North Carolina, as a Maintenance Technician. For more information, my CV can be downloaded below.
Statement
My current body of work explores the idea of bricolage, something constructed or created from a diverse range of available things. The idea for these works came from working at the Jun Kaneko Studio, where we would churn out tons of scrap material that was to be thrown away. These pieces were too small to be useful to the studio so they became trash, but I was transfixed by the strata of the plywood and the vibrant hue of the insulation foam. I wanted to re-contextualize these industrial materials to highlight their inherent beauty, and repurpose them as the building blocks for my sculptures.
